A general evaluation identifies and describes the institution that awarded the credential, the admission standards for the certificate, diploma, or degree, the type of program that was completed, the date that the credential was earned, information about the postsecondary institution where it was earned, our evaluation methodology, the evaluator's curriculum vitae, document citations, and certification to the U.S. educational equivalent. The simplest sort of international academic evaluation is called a "General Evaluation," and it can be used for limited employment or further education.

The general evaluation is included in a standard course-by-course evaluation together with the list of subjects studied, the conversion of each grade into the American grading system, and the computation of both the Grade Point Average (GPA) and post-secondary credits obtained. For any form of continuing education or job needs, standard Course by Course evaluations are often necessary.

The most comprehensive evaluation available is an Immigration Course by Course evaluation, which contains the education narrative and all parts of the Standard Course by Course evaluation as required by USCIS for visa acceptance.
